YouTube Channel Updates Also Affecting Nintendo Creators Program

By now everyone is aware of the recent changes to YouTube that were introduced last month. You know, the change that if your channel doesn’t surpass 4,000 hours of watch time within the past year and 1,000 subscribers that you’ll lose monetization. For many of the smaller channels, it’s a bit depressing. Well, Nintendo just sent over an update on how this affects their Nintendo Creators Program.

If you’re a member of the Nintendo Creators Program, the YouTube change is also going to affect your channel. According to Nintendo, the agreement with them is that you also become and stay a partner within the YouTube Partner Program. Meaning if your channel no longer will be in the partner program on or after Feb. 20, then Nintendo will also drop you from theirs.

The Nintendo Creators Program requires agreement to and participation in the YouTube Partner Program, so if channels do not meet the above eligibility requirements, they will not be able to monetize on the Nintendo Creators Program from their videos.

It goes without saying that this was going to happen, especially since Nintendo’s program relies on YouTube’s. At least now we have official confirmation. A bit of a whammy for the smaller channels, more so for the gaming ones.

Per YouTube, these changes are being made to stop “Bad Actors” from harming the inspiring and original creators around the world who use YouTube. Yet, they fail to see that these changes could stop people from attempting to use the platform. There’s already been a huge backlash regarding the upcoming changes. Meanwhile, YouTube has failed time and time again to punish those who embarrassing the service and take advantage of loopholes.

No wonder people are searching for an alternative to YouTube, while many others have either made the jump to Twitch or have announced plans to do so.
