Mario Kart Tour Is Going To Be “Free-To-Start”

Last week, Nintendo revealed that one of their next mobile titles would be Mario Kart Tour, their first mobile attempt at the beloved racing franchise. Last year proved that the series was still popular with gamers when the Switch port version of Mario Kart 8 sold over 6 million copies, nearly half of the Nintendo Switch’s entire player base. So for it to come onto mobile? Yeah, that has a lot of potential.

However, there are questions, and one that has been raised is whether it’ll be a pay to play all (like Super Mario Run), or free-to-start (like Fire Emblem Heroes and Animal Crossing Pocket Camp). Well, we have our answer, and from an interesting place.

DeNA CEO said “Mario Kart Tour,” a Nintendo-DeNA smartphone game planned for FY18, will be free-to-start.

It’s interesting that DeNA would comment on this, as it would appear that the company is helping make the game. It was the reason that Nintendo bought them, but they haven’t had a hand in all the Nintendo mobile titles. Could they be a driving force behind Mario Kart Tour? We’ll find out.
