Steven Moffat Suggests That ‘Sherlock’ Will Return, After a Long Hiatus

By Andrew AgressFebruary 2, 2018
Sherlock

It appears that Sherlock fans are in for quite the wait. Steven Moffat, co-creator of the BBC show based around the famed fictional detective, mentioned in an interview with the Radio Times that the show may not be back for some time. Actually, a long time. However, he said that he’d be surprised if the show didn’t return and that it would likely continue for several more series. However, it would be quith a while. He didn’t give a specific timeframe, but did suggest “a longer gap.” Judging by the  three year gap between series three and four, this could be one of four years.

Co-creator Mark Gatiss explained the reason for the hiatus. The two showrunners are working on Dracula, their new series, which they predict will take two years to create. Gatiss stated, “we’re not going to do Sherlock whilst we’re doing Dracula.” Moffat capped off the interview with somewhat of a silver lining, clarifying, “It’s not the kind of show that has to come back all the time. It can revisit. Every time Sherlock comes back it’s a reunion show.”

So it looks like Sherlock will return and could keep doing so indefinitely, the only downside being that more and more years may pass each time.
