Nintendo Sold 2.6 Million Hardware Units In December In The US

Nintendo Switch

Nintendo was without a doubt THE video game publisher in 2017. The Switch launched to huge fanfare, it had plenty of 1st party games come out for it, and it continually sold out. The 3DS stay alived in some very big ways, including bringing big games like Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia, Pokemon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, and more. And finally, they released the SNES Classic, which also sold like crazy.

But what might (or might not) surprise you though is just how big December was for Nintendo. And we’re not talking the rest of the world, we’re talking just in the US. For in the month of December, the Big N sold a combined 2.6 million hardware units. Breaking this down, the Switch sold 1.5 million, the 3DS solid 750,000K, and the SNES Classic sold another 350,000k. Again, this is JUST the US, not world sales. Can you imagine what it’d be like if we got the numbers for the rest of the world? They’d be off the charts we’re sure.

This is actually the best sales month for the 3DS since 2014. As for the switch, this number brings the console to 4.8 million sold in the US. And so you can expect it to be over 5 million very soon if it’s not there already. What’s more, that makes the Switch the fastest-selling console in US history.

Nintendo has a lot going for it, and it’ll be fun to see if it can maintain the momentum here in 2018.
