SEGA’s Border Break Mecha Game Is Finally Coming Home

By Keith MitchellJanuary 13, 2018

File this under It’s about time!

While SEGA is known for their exceptionally amazing fighting mecha game, Virtual On (that needs to come back). They did manage to pump out another fantastic title that was an arcade-only title for a very long time. That game is Border Break and it featured massive 10 vs. 10 team battles, along with customization options that let players build their own specific mecha. Released during 2009, Border Break was a smashing success, at least in Japan. Not so much in North America, as not many locations imported the game. Due to the price per unit and the network needed to play the game, it just wasn’t feasible.

Thankfully, this will all be a thing of the past as SEGA has announced that Border Break is heading home. Slated for a release in Summer 2018, the title will be available for the PlayStation 4 – but in Japan only. The game will have some slight differences, such as it will completely free-to-play. It will support both the Dualshock 4 controller, a mouse. At least with the mouse support, it will be somewhat similar to the arcade controls (pictured below). However, I hope this will also include joystick support as well.

There will also be an open beta next month, that anyone can check out. Providing they have a Japanese PSN account. You can bet that I”ll be checking that out. I always wanted to get my hands on Border Break, and I’m happy to see that SEGA is finally bringing it to consoles. Sure I could have hoped on a plane to Japan.. nah, no I couldn’t.

I just hope that they’ll also give us a North American release as well. I’d also love to see this title make it’s way over to the PC as well. Maybe after this is released, SEGA will think about bringing 2 Spicy over to the PS4 and/or PC as well.
