Bryan Fuller Signs Onto ‘Vampire Chronicles’ TV Adaptation

By Sara Roncero-MenendezJanuary 13, 2018

Bryan Fuller is on a creative rampage, and it is both beautiful and a little disheartening. He keeps jumping from amazing project to amazing project, while they are mostly still incomplete. He left American Gods after this first season, Star Trek: Discovery before it really got on its feet, and now, he’s taking a stopover in the world of Anne Rice. That’s right, Fuller will be working on the TV adaptation of The Vampire Chronicles.

When the recently revived Paramount TV optioned all 11 of Anne Rice’s Vampire Chronicles books, fans of the series wonder not just what they would do with the property but who would be working on it. For those unfamiliar with the series, it follows the adventures of the immortal vampire Lestat de Lioncourt (for the most part) and other vampires as they navigate the world throughout history. There were two movies made from the franchise: Interview with a Vampire and Queen of the Damned.

Fuller’s been known for his dark, highly-aesthetic shows, like the aforementioned American Gods, Hannibal, Pushing Daisies, and Dead Like Me. It’s no wonder he was drawn to the camp and circumstance, if you will, of these novels. However, we don’t know yet what exactly his role will be. He might be the showrunner, or he might just be helping out with the early stages of development. We can confirm his involvement, however, thanks to a post from the author’s son, Christopher Rice.

There are no other announcements pertaining to cast or a timeline for the show. The show comes at the time when Anne Rice has revived the series, adding two new books in 2014 and 2016. This could be a way for Paramount to get their own Games of Thrones, i.e. a sprawling fantasy saga with lots of memorable characters and a meandering plot that never seems to end. Not the worst choice as far as content strategies go.

A reporter by trade, Sara is a lover of horror, sci-fi, and all things pop culture. From indies to classics to even the strangest schlock, all movies and TV shows are fair game. She believes Batman is the most fascinating superhero, and that Silent Hill is one of the best horror franchises ever made (as long as you don't count the movies). Fun Fact: The only movie Sara will not rewatch is The Room -- once was more than enough.
