COSPLAY BY McCALL’S Pixie Sprite Pattern Review

By LizLizJanuary 15, 2018

PIXIE SPRITE is a cute fairy cosplay pattern by Ichigo Black from COSPLAY BY McCALL’S. If you do a quick search for “pixie sprite” on Google Images, tons of pictures will show up, with this pattern further down in the results. What this means is cosplayers now have a “base” for an incredibly popular costume. Additionally, this pattern will be great for creating Victorian Steam Punk fashion or an Assassin’s Creed courtesan. So let’s get to what’s inside:

Here are the specs:

  • Skill level: Intermediate
  • Sizes: 6, 8, 10, 12, 14
  • Pattern number: M2108

This pattern features a lined dress with contrast pleat overlay, ruffles, an attached apron, and back zipper entry. The envelop notes that this dress is worn with a purchased petticoat, so if you were hoping to get the effect you see in the picture without one, you might get a different result. Of course, petticoats are simple to make and even easier to buy, so this shouldn’t deter you from trying this pattern out.

This pattern calls for a variety of different fabrics ranging from cotton to damask or brocade and novelty sheers. That is important to keep in mind because you’ll need to purchase a size 8 or 9 needle to work with the sheer fabrics and size 12 needle for the cotton. I always purchase a new package of needles whenever I start a new project but I often just grab the same size.

Upon first glance, the directions and pattern pieces can look intimidating. Intermediate is an accurate rating for the level of skill required to get through this pattern. There are lots of details and delicate fabrics that will require patience and time. The end result; however, will be worthwhile. Right now I am envisioning a Sailor Moon themed Steam Punk Luna cosplay.
