Nintendo Making A Port Of A Link Between Worlds?

By Todd BlackJanuary 4, 2018
Legend of Zelda A Link Between Worlds

The Legend of Zelda is one of the most revered video game franchises of all time. Just last year, its latest console game, Breath of the Wild, made history in many ways, including being the overwhelming favorite for Game of the Year by around 100 different sites and committees. We know that the next Legend of Zelda game is in the works. But, an interesting post seems to indicate a port of A Link Between Worlds may be coming.

This comes from Twitter user Pixelpar, who made this note on his feed:

Nintendo PR reps have been contacting journalists and requesting permission to re-quote reviews of A Link Between Worlds (for promo purposes). ALBW was released on 3DS in 2013.

This is curious for many reasons. Not the least of which is that this was a game released nearly 5 years ago, so why are they quoting reviews for “promo purposes” now? This is where the idea of a port has come from. Mainly a port to the Switch. It would be the first 2D-style Zelda game on the system, which Nintendo said in the past could happen.

It’s very interesting, especially since A Link Between Worlds was one of the Zelda games that “broke the mold” and no doubt helped lead to the creation of Breath of the Wild’s “open-air” gameplay. For in the 3DS game, you had access to every single dungeon right off the bat, so you can tackle them in any order you wanted.

So, what does this all mean? Well, if they are indeed making promos, we might just find out soon.
