Xenoblade Chronicles 2 Nintendo Direct Highlights

Xenoblade Chronicles 2 review Favorite Nintendo Switch Games, Monolith Soft

For the first time in months, Nintendo does not have a major 1st party title coming to the Nintendo Switch for the next little bit. November is officially 1st-party-less. However, at the top of December comes rebirth in the form of Xenoblade Chronicles 2.

The sequel to the original game and Xenoblade Chronicles X looks to be yet another grand-scale game on the Switch, not to mention one of the true RPGs on the system. And today, a major Nintendo Direct was held for the game, and many revelations were had.

In the 16-minute-plus video we not only got a major trailer for the story, but also reveals of DLC, audio options, and more. On the story side, we got to see just why Rex is so determined to help Pyra. Turns out…he dies in the game, like when he first finds Pyra. But, she sacrifices half her life so he can live, and thus, the two are bound. It’s certainly an interesting twist on the “boy meets girl” story that some have called the game out on.

We also get to see a series of characters that we will meet, both good, bad, and Blades. There’s going to be great variety in Xenoblade Chronicles 2, and the more time you spend with your Blades, the more you and they grow.

The combat system also got a major talking about, and revealed many kinds of combo attacks that you can use in the game. Proving that this will be one battle system that’ll be tough to master, but very enjoyable when you do.

Nintendo surprised though when they revealed that the audio for the game will come in two forms. One is the standard English dub, and the other is the Japanese dub with English subtitles. The later will be available via a Day One patch.

Another surprise was an expansion pass for Xenoblade Chronicles 2. This pass will go all the way until Autumn of next year, and include new blades, new places to go, AND, an additional story.

As if that wasn’t enough, the Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, is getting in on the action, as the game will soon get a quest that’ll allow Link to dress like Rex.

All of this serves to build the hype for Xenoblade Chronicles 2 even higher. And we can’t wait for the game to arrive on December 1st.
