Are More New IP’s Coming To Nintendo Switch Next Year?

By Todd BlackOctober 25, 2017
Kirby Nintendo Switch

So without a doubt, the Nintendo Switch has had a GREAT first year. It started out with Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, then came Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, ARMS, Splatoon, Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle, Pokemon Tournament DX, Fire Emblem Warriors (which we’ll have our review up for soon!) just came out, and we’re literally days away from Super Mario Odyssey. Add that to Xenoblade Chronicles 2 and the fact that the console is selling out EVERYWHERE…and yeah, great first year.

But…as some have noted, including us here at the Nintendo Entertainment Podcast, soon 2017 will end, and 2018 will come, and that means that the Nintendo Switch is going to need new games. Now, on the 1st party front, we know that Kirby Star Allies, a Yoshi title, and possibly a Fire Emblem title will arrive on Switch. But, as a tweet and an interview with Famitsu states, Nintendo has other plans for the Switch:

Yoshiaki Koizumi says to expect more than just traditional Nintendo IPs for Nintendo Switch next year https://t.co/rkhgtvVQmU

Now, “traditional” can be taken many ways. But we think the jist is pretty clear, he’s saying that you should expect more than just the standard library of titles. Which…means new IP’s more than likely. This isn’t too surprising, as we did get ARMS in year one of the Nintendo Switch run, what’s to say they weren’t working on other new IP’s after that?

Another way you can take it is that they’re going to try and bring 3rd party IP’s to the system. Maybe…exclusives? Like…Bayonetta 3? For instance?

Any way you look at it, it’s clear Nintendo wants the Switch to be successful in 2018 just as it was in 2017. And if they keep their word? They’ll do it.

What 3rd party IP would like to see on Switch? What brand-new IP do you think they’re creating?
