Production Begins on M. Night Shyamalan’s Sequel, “Glass”

By Sara Roncero-MenendezOctober 2, 2017

The legacy of M. Night Shyamalan is a tricky one. After a stellar debut, every film has marked a point on a downward spiral. That is, until Split pulled him out of the tailspin by creating an horror film with actual horror and suspense. Now Glass is hopefully going to keep that upward trend, and it just began production in Philadelphia today.

Glass is both a sequel to his hit Unbreakable and a follow-up to Split. For the film, the main characters will all return, including Bruce Willis returns as David Dunn,  Samuel L. Jackson as Elijah Price, aka Mr. Glass, James McAvoy as the multi-personalitied Kevin Wendell Crumb, and Anya Taylor-Joy as Casey Cooke, Crumb’s only surviving victim. Sarah Paulson is also joining the cast, though in a currently unknown role. There are no details on the plot just yet, just this very short synopsis:

Following the conclusion of Split, Glass finds Dunn pursuing Crumb’s superhuman figure of The Beast in a series of escalating encounters, while the shadowy presence of Price emerges as an orchestrator who holds secrets critical to both men.

Perhaps even more interesting that the film will be yet another example of studios collaborating. You see, Unbreakable was released under Touchstone, which is a Disney studio, while Split was released by Universal. As such, in order to make Glass a reality, negotiations had to be made concerning the use of these different characters. If this film pays off like Spiderman: Homecoming did, we might be seeing some more collaborations in the future. Still, with a record like Shyamalan’s, it’s hard to know whether we should be excited or apprehensive about this new film.

Glass is set to debut in theaters on January 18, 2019.

A reporter by trade, Sara is a lover of horror, sci-fi, and all things pop culture. From indies to classics to even the strangest schlock, all movies and TV shows are fair game. She believes Batman is the most fascinating superhero, and that Silent Hill is one of the best horror franchises ever made (as long as you don't count the movies). Fun Fact: The only movie Sara will not rewatch is The Room -- once was more than enough.
