Phantasy Star Online 2: Cloud Announced For Nintendo Switch

Here we go again!

Oh boy, you just had to go and do it, didn’t you Sega? A game that I’ve been personally looking forward to since 2012, that was SUPPOSED to make its way over to the West but never did. That game is Phantasy Star Online 2, and as of last night’s Nintendo Direct, we now know that a version of that game is making its way over to the Nintendo Switch.

Yep, get ready for Phantasy Star Online 2: Cloud – a free to play version of Sega’s MMO title. And hence the name, this game will be run completely from the cloud, so there’s no client or data to download (outside of the bits you upload/download). However, that part is confusing and disheartening to see, as it seems like the Switch version will be a half-baked port, while the PS Vita has already received a fully functioning title.

We’ll have to wait for more news on the title, however, to see how Sega pulls this out. Perhaps we’ll hear more from the upcoming Toyko Game Show, which takes place October 21st – 24th, 2017.

Phantasy Star Online 2 is a sequel to the Dreamcast title, Phantasy Star Online, that was released during 2001. I still love that game, btw. Originally slated to be ported over to the West in 2012, this hack and slash based MMO title hasn’t made the jump over to North America and likely won’t. However, this hasn’t stopped Sega from also porting the title the to the PlayStation 4, PS Vita, iOS and even Android.  But don’t ask any PSO2 fans that live in the West about the title – it’s known to cause all sorts of frustration.

Never forget Red Ring Rico!
