UPDATE: 9/12/2017: Cities, Dates, and Theaters for A Silent Voice announced: https://www.theouterhaven.net/2017/09/u-s-screenings-silent-voice-revealed/

During the 2017 Crunchyroll Expo, Eleven Arts announced that Yoshitoki Oima and Kyoto Animation’s A Silent Voice (Koe no Katachi) will open in U.S. theaters on October 20. Previously, they stated at Anime Expo that the film would open in October, but they never stated a specific date until now.  Eleven Arts also screened the film at Anime Expo earlier this year.

Currently, Kodansha holds the license for the North American distribution of the manga while Viz Media’s Europe division has acquired the rights to distribute the movie in the European Union, Russia, Turkey, and French-speaking African countries. No anime license has been announced for the North American release of the film just yet.

Crunchyroll describes the original manga’s story as follows:

I wish we had never met. I wish we could meet once again.
A boy who can hear, Shoya Ishida, and a transfer student who can’t, Shoko Nishimiya. One fateful day, the two meet, and Shoya leads the class in bullying Shoko. But before long, the class shifts its target from Shoko to Shoya. Years later, Shoya feels strongly that he must see Shoko once again.

The Outerhaven’s own Karl Smart has a review of A Silent Voice which can be read here: https://www.theouterhaven.net/2017/05/97082/
