Crackdown 3 Delayed To Spring 2018

By Keith MitchellAugust 16, 2017

Yes, it has been delayed again!

In yet another snag, Xbox One gamers can cross off yet another title for 2017. The latest casualty is Crackdown 3, a title that was already hit with a big delay back in 2016, is now being delayed yet again. That November 7th, 2017 release date, which coincides with the Xbox One X release date, has been pushed to Spring 2018.

Polygon first broke this news, providing Microsoft’s reasoning for the title’s delay. What is it this time you ask? Well, Microsoft wants a more time to make sure Crackdown 3 lives up to its hype. It seems Microsoft has been listening to the feedback of the game, which has been met with mixed results.

“We’re very excited about Crackdown 3, and so are many fans, and so it’s a difficult call to move the release date,” Microsoft Studios Publishing general manager Shannon Loftis said. “However, we want to make sure to deliver the right game, with the right quality, and at the right time. Crackdown 3 is a hugely ambitious game and we want to ensure we deliver the right experiences all the way through every part of the game.”

Now, as a fan of Crackdown and Microsoft, this delay couldn’t have come at a worse time. In a year where Microsoft’s first party exclusives have been lacking, this delay could be costly. As mentioned, Crackdown 3 was supposed to be released alongside the Xbox One X. This drops the number of release titles for that system, leaving only Forza Motorsport 7 as the only other first party title to showcase the systems’ power. And Forza isn’t even a release title, as it will be released earlier for the Xbox One and Windows 10 PCs.

On the other hand, I’m glad Microsoft has decided to delay the title, especially if it needs more development time. This is a practice I wish more development studios would take with their flagship titles. It still doesn’t take the sting away, but it does mean that when it is finally released, it better be damned good.

I guess we’ll all just have to listen to Terry Crews in what may be the last Crackdown 3 trailer for some time.
