RUMOR: Tokyo Ghoul Live-Action Movie to Open in U.S. Theaters on August 10

Tokyo Ghoul

UPDATE 9/18/17: An official release date from FUNimation has been announced: https://www.theouterhaven.net/2017/09/tokyo-ghoul-movie-opens-october-16/

I would like to start off by stressing that FUNimation has not made any official announcements yet as to the release of the Tokyo Ghoul live-action movie; however, the website IMDB has a list of release dates from around the world with the United States listed as August 10. The film premiered in Japan on July 29 and FUNimation has confirmed the August 9 release date in the Philippines so it is not completely out of the realm of possibility that the U.S. and other parts of the world would get the film on August 10 (or in some cases, later.)

The complete list of release dates for the Tokyo Ghoul film are as follows:

USA 3 July 2017 (Anime Expo)
Canada 16 July 2017 (Fantasia International Film Festival)
South Korea 16 July 2017 (Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival)
Japan 29 July 2017
UK 10 August 2017
USA 10 August 2017
Taiwan 18 August 2017
Australia 24 August 2017
New Zealand 24 August 2017
Singapore 24 August 2017
Hong Kong 31 August 2017

As with anything FUNimation releases, we expect to hear an official confirmation from them as we draw closer to the August 10 date. We will update this post as more official information becomes available. IMDB has already rated the film at a 7.8/10 and many critics and fans are saying that this is one of the best live-action adaptations of a manga in quite some time. Both seasons of the anime are licensed and available from FUNimation. VIZ Media holds the license to the original manga as well as the sequel manga Tokyo Ghoul:re. The 14th and final volume of the original manga will be released in the U.S. on August 15 while Tokyo Ghoul:re‘s first volume is slated for an October release.

IMDB describes the plot of Tokyo Ghoul as follows:

A Tokyo college student is attacked by a ghoul, a superpowered human who feeds on human flesh. He survives, but has become part ghoul and becomes a fugitive on the run.
