SDCC 2017 – Noah Hawley Developing “Doctor Doom” Film for Fox

By Sara Roncero-MenendezJuly 20, 2017

The news keeps coming from San Diego Comic Con, and boy, is this one a doozy. Noah Hawley, who was the series showrunner for Legion, broke at the show’s panel that he is currently developing a Doctor Doom solo film for Fox, presumably to help them hold onto that Fantastic 4 license they love so much.

We know that Hawley can write a good super story, but The Hollywood Reporter says that he is also interested in being the future Doctor Doom project’s director. His only two directorial credits are for two episodes of Fargo and one for Legion, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that he’ll have issues making the transition to feature films.

For all you Fantastic 4 fans, I wouldn’t get too excited yet. Besides the studio never having truly made a good film for the franchise, developing a script doesn’t mean the project will be made. Still, the fact that they asked is a pretty good sign that they want to explore a new avenue. It is interesting that unlike the other two big studios, which have only produced solo films for their heroes, Fox might be making one for the best loved villain of the franchise. If they manage to pull it off, it would be a fascinating first in the always shifting world of the comic book film universe.

A reporter by trade, Sara is a lover of horror, sci-fi, and all things pop culture. From indies to classics to even the strangest schlock, all movies and TV shows are fair game. She believes Batman is the most fascinating superhero, and that Silent Hill is one of the best horror franchises ever made (as long as you don't count the movies). Fun Fact: The only movie Sara will not rewatch is The Room -- once was more than enough.
