Switch Owners Who Want Dragon Ball FighterZ Need To Buy Xenoverse 2

By Keith MitchellJuly 16, 2017
Dragon Ball FighterZ

There’s definitely a lot of excitement going around when it comes to Bandai Namco Dragon Ball FighterZ. Despite being just 20% done, the game has so much attention, every more so than another fighting game that is also in the works. While gamers on either the PlayStation 4, Xbox One or PC are set for a release, the Nintendo Switch isn’t. And this doesn’t sit well with a lot of Switch owners.

There’s already a petition going around to get the game on the system, and I’ve already seen multiple retweets. I’m quite sure that Bandai Namco has gotten more than a few (thousand) emails about the subject as well.

Now, I don’t know with either will do much to get Dragon Ball FighterZ onto the Switch. We do know that Tomoko Hiroko, the producer of the title, knows of the interest.  During EVO 2017, Shonengames asked if there was a chance that the game would be ported to the Switch. Surprisingly, Hiroko replied that it wasn’t totally out question – however, they need to gauge the support for the system.

KS: There’s an overwhelmingly insane support for a Nintendo Switch version of FighterZ. Have you seen the outreach and is there anything you would like to say to them?

TH: In terms of the Switch version, we’re currently working on Xenoverse 2 for the Switch, so we want players to first go there, and then we can talk about FighterZ.

Meaning, the possibility of Dragon Ball FighterZ arriving on the Switch will depend on how well Xenoverse 2 sells on the system. The Switch version of Xenoverse 2 doesn’t release until September 29th, 2017, but will include Switch-specific controls and a six-player local multiplayer mode. Outside of that, there isn’t anything that sounds enticing, especially if you already own the game on the PS4, Xbox One or PC.

So Switch fans, there is a chance for Dragon Ball FighterZ to hit the Switch. However, you’re going to need to show Bandai Namco the need for the title by picking up Xenoverse 2, first. Definitely not the answer that Nintendo Switch owners were looking for.

If I’m being perfectly honest here, who doesn’t think that a portable version of DBFZ won’t sell? That would probably sell so many copies that it wouldn’t even funny. DBFZ needs to end up on the Switch, but will it?
