“A Wrinkle in Time” Teaser Trailer Debuts at D23

By Sara Roncero-MenendezJuly 15, 2017

A Wrinkle in Time is one of those beloved franchises that has proved difficult to adapt, due to the weird and etherial nature of the book. However, auteur Ava DuVernay is trying her hand at the task, with the help of an all-star cast. Now, fans are sure to squeal in delight at the new trailer, unveiled on day two of D23:

While short, the trailer gives us a quick look at some of our favorite characters, including the Murrays, with Chris Pine and Gugu Mbatha-Raw as the two Dr. Murrays, Storm Reid as our protagonist Meg, and Deric McCabe as her little genius brother Charles Wallace. We also hear from Mrs. Which, played by Oprah Winfrey, and a glimpse at Mrs. Whatisit and Mrs. Who, played by Reese Witherspoon and Mindy Kaling, respectively. It looks a little more action-packed than the original 1963 book by Madeleine L’Engle, but the same soft colors and trippy sci-fi thought experiments seem present.

As expected, there are already some rumblings about the mainly POC cast. Other criticisms  film looks too much like other Disney live-action films that wound up being flops, like The Lone Ranger and Tomorrowland. However, whether this will have any effects on its popularity or critical reception, DuVernay’s direction alone will definitely keep this film in the limelight for a time, and hopefully build a success that the Disney live-action studio desperately needs.

A Wrinkle in Time is set to premiere in theaters on March 9th, 2018.

A reporter by trade, Sara is a lover of horror, sci-fi, and all things pop culture. From indies to classics to even the strangest schlock, all movies and TV shows are fair game. She believes Batman is the most fascinating superhero, and that Silent Hill is one of the best horror franchises ever made (as long as you don't count the movies). Fun Fact: The only movie Sara will not rewatch is The Room -- once was more than enough.
