Anime Expo 2017: Three New Titles Announced by Studio Trigger

By Clinton Bowman-ChristieJuly 2, 2017

Studio Trigger announced three new titles to join its lineup during their Anime Expo panel on Sunday.

DARLING in the FRANKXX, co-produced by A-1 Pictures, is the first of the three titles announced, whose staff will be announced on July 5th at Midnight JST. A-1 Pictures’ Hiroyuki Shimizu appeared at the panel, announcing her involvement with the project.

Superhuman Samurai Syber Squad Gridman, a collaboration with the studio behind Ultraman, Tsuburaya Productions, will be directed by Akira Amemiya. It will be an original story, unrelated to the original series, Denko Chojin Gridman (source material for the American series Superhuman Samurai Syber Squad,) despite Trigger’s description of the series as an “anime take on the toku series.”

Finally, Promare, an original work in collaboration with XFlag, is being touted by Trigger to be similar in tone to Gurren Lagann and Kill la Kill, both collaborations done by the leads on this project, director Hiroyuku Imashi and scriptwriter Kazuki Nakashima. The project has been in the works for the past four years, according to Trigger staff.
