Elite Dangerous For The PS4 Pro Will not Support 4K or HDR At Launch

By Keith MitchellJune 23, 2017

There’s a war brewing when it comes to the PlayStation 4 Pro and Xbox One X. Every bit of gaming news surrounding 4K seems to be ammo for either camp, and it doesn’t look like that will stop anytime soon. So, I’m sure this next piece of news is going to be more of the same.

Frontier Developments announced that the PlayStation 4 Pro version of Elite Dangerous will not support 4K or HDR when the title is finally released. This information was announced during an official Elite Dangerous live stream that took place yesterday. During the stream, they did mention that the PlayStation 4 Pro version will include the ability switch between either a performance mode or a quality mode.

In addition, the PS4 Pro game will not have any support for 4K, supersampling or HDR upon launch. No word if any when either 4K or HDR will be patched for the PS4 Pro.

The rub is that they confirmed previously that the Xbox One title will be patched to support 4K, for the Xbox One X. This will be patched during the launch of Microsoft’s 4K console.

Pick up Elite Dangerous on Steam for just $14.99, until July 5th

Despite it all, 4K or not, fans of space combat simulators should not miss out on this title. It’s damned good and lots of fun. Elite Dangerous releases on June 27th, 2017, for the PlayStation 4 Pro.
