Wolcen Studio’s Project Pantheon Blends Action RPG Intensity with Extraction Mechanics

Not long ago, the action RPG community debated the inclusion of numerous sub-genres like Soulslikes. Now, a new sub-genre has emerged: the ExtrAction RPG, short for Extraction Action RPG, introduced by Wolcen Studio’s upcoming title, Project Pantheon. This game blends the fast-paced Hack-and-Slash combat that Wolcen Studio is renowned for with high-stakes extraction gameplay. Set in a dark fantasy universe, it reimagines historical mythologies through a fresh and immersive lens, promising players an exciting and innovative experience.

Although Project Pantheon is still deep in development, Wolcen Studio is inviting seasoned players of action RPGs, MOBAs, and extraction games to join its upcoming Closed Alpha Test. The test runs January 25-26, 2025, in Europe and February 1-2, 2025, in North America. For more details, visit the official website.

While the game is still quite a way in development, Wolcen Studio is offering players who are experienced in action RPGs, MOBA, and extraction games a chance to participate in its upcoming Closed Alpha Test that will take place from January 25-26 in Europe and February 1-2, 2025, for North American PC players. For more information head on over to the official website.

This free-to-play live service game immerses players in a mysterious afterlife, where Death tasks them with restoring balance to a fractured reality. Players will explore diverse maps, face challenging foes in PvPvE combat, and engage in high-risk extractions for valuable loot. Failure, however, comes with the cost of losing their gear. Between missions, players can upgrade their secret stronghold, customize loadouts, and refine their strategies to discover their ideal playstyle.  The game will support a player-driven economy with an open market, enabling trading and collaboration, and fostering a vibrant and interconnected community. I know live service games often get a mixed reception, but there’s no denying that, when executed well, they can be both fun and engaging. As for this new take on the action RPG genre, I’m genuinely curious to see what an Extraction Action RPG brings to the table.

Since Project Pantheon was just announced, it’s no surprise that there’s currently no ETA for its release.
