THE COLORS WITHIN Original Soundtrack Available Now

By Josh PiedraJanuary 24, 2025

Milan Records has released THE COLORS WITHIN (ORIGINAL MOTION PICTURE SOUNDTRACK) featuring music by composer kensuke ushio. Available everywhere now, the album features music written by ushio for acclaimed director Naoko Yamada’s new animated film, which makes its nationwide US theatrical debut today from GKIDS.

THE COLORS WITHIN

The project marks ushio’s fourth collaboration with the visionary director following their work together on A Silent Voice, Liz and the Blue Bird and The Heike Story. Following a group of outsiders as they form a band and begin a journey of self-discovery, The Colors Within is a touching story of adolescence and friendship set against Yamada’s strikingly dreamy animation style and ushio’s immersive musical compositions. The 52-track collection features both score music as well as full-length versions of songs performed by the film’s characters, ranging from atmospheric, piano-driven melodies to electronic, idiosyncratic instrumentation and even New Wave-influenced synth tracks.

Produced by studio Science SARU, The Colors Within made its sold-out world premiere as an official selection at the Annecy International Film Festival, and went on to win the Best Animation Film Award at the Shanghai International Film Festival.
