TOHO Set to Acquire Shares of Studio Orange

By Josh PiedraDecember 19, 2024

Studio Orange announced that TOHO plans to acquire 19.7% of its shares effective as of January 17.

The goal of the partial acquisition is to improve the quality of their work, secure human resources both from within and outside of Japan, and expand their studio footprint. As of the time of this writing, a monetary value was not disclosed.

The acquisition of shares will further the relationship between the two companies as they have previously collaborated on titles such as Land of the Lustrous, BEASTARS, Godzilla Singular Point, and Trigun Stampede.

Studio Orange is not the only studio that TOHO has acquired shares of. Previously on October 15, TOHO acquired 6.09% of shares in CoMix Wave Films which produces Makoto Shinkai’s works such as The Garden of Words, 5 Centimeters per Second, your name., Weathering With You, and most recently, Suzume.

It has also fully acquired the North American anime distributor GKIDS as well as the anime studio Science SARU.
