Karate Kid Legends Gets Official Trailer

Two Branches, One Tree
By Todd BlackDecember 17, 2024
Karate Kid Legends

I have an interesting history with the Karate Kid franchise. I watched the movies, but I honestly only remember parts of them at times, especially with the second movie. Oh, but I didn’t watch the one with Jaden Smith. Then, when I heard about Cobra Kai (which I review faithfully here on The Outerhaven), I was sucked right back into the universe and have been with it ever since. That brings us to the unique “universe uniting” film Karate Kid Legends, which will drop next May and has finally gotten an official trailer.

The point of this film is simple. Jackie Chan (from the Karate Kid reboot film with Jaden Smith) has gotten a new protege in Li Fong. To train him in a meaningful way, he seeks out the one and only Daniel LaRusso (played once again by Ralph Macchio. The goal is to bring “two branches” of martial arts together to help Li fight for those close to him. I’ll admit, it looks interesting, and it feels like a true part of the franchise. Check out the trailer below.

It’s important to note that Karate Kid Legends will canonically take place after Cobra Kai’s finale in February. Thus, Daniel-san will go from one adventure to the next, and it’ll be curious to see if the Netflix series sets seeds for the May film release.
