SEGA Sheds Light on Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii Combat And Naval Battles

Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii

About a month ago SEGA revealed a new spin-off game in the Like a Dragon franchise starring fan favorite Goro Majima called Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii. Then, a few days later, another trailer released, showing off some combat and naval battles, while also moving up the release date as well. These trailers may have provided glimpses into what the different types of combat entail, but many were still left wondering how it all works.

Well, it didn’t take too long, but SEGA has now given out more information, via a press release, on the various aspects of both on foot combat and naval battles.

Majima’s Full Arsenal is on display in Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii

The action based Like a Dragon games feature different stances for main character Kazama Kiryu to use in combat. Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii allows Majima to do the same, as he can switch between two unique stances.

“Mad Dog” style sees Majima use his fists and trusty knife to deal quick damage whether on the ground or in the air. Producing wicked aerial combos and aiding in filling up the “Madness gauge” (A.K.A. Heat Gauge) which allows Majima to use a special attack that summons multiple versions of himself into battle. In addition,

“Sea Dog” style allows Majima to uses cutlasses to perform various slashes and major special maneuvers and give him access to three distinct sidearms. A Cutlass Boomerang, a charged pistol, and a chain hook.

By progressing through the story, which is set after the events of Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth, Goro Majima can obtain four special dark instruments, and by filling up the Madness Gauge, Majima can summon for example a large chimpanzee or enraged Shark to fight by his side.

Sail the Seas And Fight

As shown in previous trailers, Majima will sail the seas on his ship the Goro Maru. Using bombs he can sink his foes or use evasive maneuvers to gain the upperhand. Eventually Majima does board ships and engage in the aforementioned ground combat with his crewmates. However, players do need to upgrade their ships armor and weapons to keep up the advantage as battles become more difficult later in the game.

Trailers have also shown that there’s plenty to do in the explorable city of Madlantis including a crazy battle arena with various types of battles.

Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii is shaping up to be another fun adventure in the series and thankfully we won’t have to wait too long until its release on February 21, 2025.
