Naver WEBTOON Purges 70 Pirate Sites

By Josh PiedraNovember 30, 2024
Webtoon

Naver WEBTOON announced that they have successfully purged 70 pirate sites that account for 1.3 billion annual visits. These purges came after the company filed legal proceedings in the United States via a subpoena through a U.S. court.

It is believed that this is the same motion filed in a Texas court that initially targeted 170 pirate sites accounting for a combined 100 million monthly visits. The 70 sites, according to WEBTOON, opted to cease operations.

Kim Kyu-nam, President of Naver WEBTOON said:

“We will continue our relentless fight against illegal webtoon and web novel sites worldwide, maintaining a strict zero-tolerance policy. Naver WEBTOON will spare no effort or investment in safeguarding the creative ecosystem.”

Some of the sites that opted to shut down include Luminous Scans, Mangatx, and Mangtale.
