Crunchyroll is continuing to fight against piracy as they have issued 45.1 million copyright takedown requests. These requests also include those made by Funimation before it was completely assimilated into the Crunchyroll brand.
This comes as part of a report from Google which announced that they have reached a horrifying milestone of having received over 10 BILLION URL takedown requests. The exact number as of December 6, 2023, was 10,138,526,722. These URLs were hosted across 5,402,321 domains.
Between Crunchyroll and the now-defunct Funimation, they have become the most sought-after content to be removed. It should be noted that the company may not have made the entirety of the claims as Google’s takedown form allows anyone to pose as an organization representing a copyright owner. False claims do come with a liability for damages, though which makes it likely that the majority of the copyright claims were enacted on Crunchyroll’s behalf.
