The Pokemon Company Almost Made A WarioWare-Esque Mobile Title

Yeah...this was a fumbled opportunity.
By Todd BlackOctober 21, 2024
The Pokemon Company

We noted recently on the Nintendo Entertainment Podcast that we here at The Outerhaven wouldn’t cover the Game Freak hack that occurred because it was sometimes hard to tell what was fact from mistranslation or just simple ideas that never went anywhere. Plus, we didn’t want to potentially spoil certain upcoming games. However, a new leak has come out for a canceled mobile title that The Pokemon Company was thinking of making, and it’s one we want to talk about for two reasons. First, there are videos featuring the title’s gameplay, and second, it was clearly the Pokemon version of WarioWare.

As you’ll see below, The Pokemon Company was clearly trying to take on the “microgame” concept that WarioWare has used to care out a niche for itself. The title would’ve been on mobile, which would fit the aesthetic they’re going for here.

So, why was “Project Swallow” canceled? It’s hard to say. They clearly made numerous microgame prototypes for it, perhaps they felt they could make better money on other mobile titles, or by focusing on the upcoming console games.
