ALIEN: ISOLATION Is Getting A Follow-Up A Decade Later

ALIEN ISOLATION review header

Creative Assembly, the developer of one of my favorite games of all time, ALIEN: ISOLATION, has just announced that it is working on a sequel to the game: ALIEN: ISOLATION 2—or whatever it will eventually be called.

Yes, that game that was released back in 2014! The very same game that Sega has been porting to nearly every platform available, including the Nintendo Switch, iOS, and Android devices.

Talk about coming out of nowhere!

There’s not much to say at the moment, outside of what Al Hope, Creative Director of ALIEN: ISOLATION, had to say about the announcement.

To our fans around the world:
It’s hard to believe that it has been 10 years since we embarked on our journey with the release of ALIEN: ISOLATION.

When we started developing ALIEN: ISOLATION, we had one guiding principle: to create a truly authentic experience that went back to the roots of the ALIEN franchise – a new story capturing the atmosphere and terror of the original 1979 movie masterpiece.

It’s been nothing short of incredible to witness your passion for the game over the years and see it reach so many players around the world.

On the 10th anniversary, it seems only fitting to let you know that we have heard your distress calls loud and clear.

Today, I’m delighted to confirm, on behalf of the team, that a sequel to ALIEN: ISOLATION is in early development. We look forward to sharing more details with you when we’re ready.

Once again, thank you.

Until next time,
Al Hope, Creative Director – ALIEN: ISOLATION

I can’t believe that this is happening! ALIEN: ISOLATION drove me crazy when I first played it, as that pesky Alien was the bane of my existence until I finally mastered the game. Even then, after the DLC was released, I wanted more—I wanted a sequel that didn’t happen, but now it is.

I still remember playing the original game with the lights off and my wife sitting by my side, jumping every time she saw the Alien… she’s not a fan of the movies. All I can think about is what will happen with this sequel.

For those who played ALIEN: ISOLATION, the game followed the original movie, featuring the protagonist, Amanda Ripley, who wanted closure regarding what happened to her mother, Ellen Ripley. As part of a team, Weyland-Yutani was sent to retrieve the flight recorder of the Nostromo, the ship her mother was on—and that’s when everything went wrong. I won’t spoil the entire game, but needless to say, the last time we saw Amanda, she ejected herself along with the Alien, sent drifting in space.

Now, a decade later, we get the announcement of an ALIEN: ISOLATION sequel! You have no idea how excited I am about this. I can’t wait until we get more information about this upcoming sequel.

I have to add that this has nothing to do with ALIEN: Blackout, which initially was revealed as a follow-up to ALIEN: ISOLATION, but has since been pulled from stores and was only available for mobile devices. Turns out it also wasn’t a direct follow-up. Go figure.
