343 Industries Rebrands as Halo Studios, Moves To Unreal Engine 5

By Keith MitchellOctober 6, 2024
Halo Studios - Halo A New Dawn

Halo. The word conjures up several emotions and has seen its share of ups and downs, but one thing you can say for sure is that the series is a fighter. With many rumors about what might happen to Halo, including the possibility of it going away, I’m glad to see that 343 Industries—now known as the Halo Studios—is out to show the world that it hasn’t given up. They are going beyond what they’ve done in the past to give us even more Halo.

Joining that effort is a new game engine: Unreal Engine 5. Yes, that means the Slipspace Engine, which was developed exclusively for Halo Infinite, is no longer in use, and perhaps that’s for the best. It’s no secret that the development of Halo Infinite wasn’t exactly smooth, and part of that was due to the Slipspace Engine.

I’m excited to see what Halo Studios can do not just with Unreal Engine 5, but with what seems like a renewed excitement and desire to make Halo what it was when the first few games hit the world: fun. Not to mention that moving to UE5, will help speed up the development of whatever Halo Studios has in mind.

In this new ViDoc the team behind Halo speaks out on the many changes, and their excitement as they move into a new direction. A direction that will hopefully inspire fans of the Halo series, as it moves into a brighter future.
