Tom Warren Hints Xbox Fans Should Tune In to The Xbox Tokyo Game Show

By Keith MitchellSeptember 20, 2024
Xbox Tokyo Game Show - Tom Warren

Tom Warren from The Verge has hit the Twitter-verse, telling everyone “gonna be worth tuning into the 2024 Xbox Tokyo Game Show stream next week.” This is interesting, given that Xbox hasn’t exactly had the best luck when it comes to luring Japanese developers to its platform. Regardless, it was announced that Xbox will be hosting the Xbox Toyko Game Show takes place on September 26 at 3 AM PDT / 6 AM EDT and will be streamed on the Tokyo Game Show Official channel.

What could he be hinting at?

I can’t even begin to guess what exactly Tom is hinting at, given Xbox’s history with Japan.

When it comes to the Xbox platform and Japanese games, things haven’t been going well. Just after the company acquired its own Japanese developer studio, Tango Gameworks, it unexpectedly shut down the studio, which made no sense whatsoever. As you can imagine, this didn’t sit well with Xbox fans who wanted to see more Japanese developers creating games for the platform, nor with Japanese companies that observed how Tango Gameworks was treated.

Additionally, Xbox consoles, outside of the Xbox 360, have not sold well in Japan. I have a lot to say about this, but this isn’t the time or place.

Regardless, Tom Warren is typically on point with his reporting, so if he’s saying this, then he must have insight that will likely excite Xbox owners.

What do you think is going to be announced or shown? A reboot? A new game? We’ll find out in under a week.
