Under Night II Sys:Celes Uzuki Gameplay Impressions

By Kevin KellyAugust 15, 2024

Uzuki’s reign of terror has begun on the Under Night 2 Sys:Celes crew. Uzuki was not on time for the debut of Under Night II Sys Celes. The skeletal dinosaur-riding summoner seems to feel right at home with the rest of the night warriors. Released early by Arc System Works and French Toast, last month, The Witch is ready to rock everyone’s world.

Uzuki’s kit may not be as intimidating as she appears, but it remains deadly. Many of the witch’s moves are effective at mid to long-range. Her Standing Heavy attack in neutral extends to about dashing distance from her opponent. Her special move, Trap of Death, offers various options that can potentially move Uzuki out of harm’s way.

When the coffin is deployed, Uzuki can command it to perform a frontal attack or even a slight anti-air maneuver. The coffin can be positioned at close or mid-range in front of her, or even laid on the ground. However, attacking Uzuki will remove it from play. Trap of Death can also apply corner pressure with just three follow-up attacks from Uzuki.

Uzuki’s air dash includes a subtle glide that creates a small arc, allowing her to retreat instead of advancing. Her Force Function ability, Melt And Lurk, enhances her movement while in puddle form, enabling her to execute sneak attacks and build the GRID meter more quickly. Melt And Lurk also negates many standing moves and projectiles.

Her Bag of Secrets includes additional traps, such as a poison that not only damages the opponent but also buffs Uzuki when it connects.

Final Thoughts on Uzuki’s Reign

Uzuki appears to be a highly versatile combatant. Her summons can apply pressure to unsuspecting opponents if they don’t carefully manage spacing. She also has several options to recover any lost GRID, making her a strong choice for players looking to switch from characters like Yuzuriha and Enkidu. Uzuki is one of the three additional characters arriving through the DLC, with Ogre and Izumi slated to join Under Night 2 in February and August 2025, respectively.

Under Night In Birth II Sys:Celes is available on PlayStation 4, and 5, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
