The Origins of the Super Smash Bros Dojo Revealed!

Dang...I feel old...
By Todd BlackAugust 23, 2024
Masahiro Sakurai, Super Smash Bros

I’ve truly loved the “Creating Games” series by Masahiro Sakurai, as he’s gone and created something special on YouTube that speaks to his personality while also showing off the wonder of gaming. His numerous videos about Super Smash Bros have been clear highlights, and the latest video adds to that. In it, he reveals the true origins of the “Smash Bros Dojo,” which was a website used to keep players informed about the first three entries to the series before the game’s release. I definitively remember going to that site every day during the Brawl days, and it’s interesting to see why it was built in the first place.

Long story short, no one was “understanding” what made Super Smash Bros special before its release on N64. So, Sakurai decided to simply go and create a website spilling “secrets” about the game so people would get hyped! It worked, and then he kept building up the site for the next two entries so that players could keep getting hyped about it. Check out the video below, it’s very much worth it.
