REPLACED Pushed to 2025 as Developers Focus on Finishing Touches

By Keith MitchellAugust 13, 2024
REPLACED Game - Sad Cat Studios

REPLACED, the upcoming futuristic pixel-art action platformer from Sad Cat Studios, has been delayed to 2025. The developer announced the delay on its official Twitter account (and no, I’m not calling it “X”).

Here’s what Sad Cat Studios had to say about delaying REPLACED.

Hey Everyone.

We’ll keep it short: REPLACED will be released in 2025. Our initial release date was optimistic, and we apologize for that. Developing REPLACED is quite a unique challenge and we’re proud to be creating something special.

We need more time to ensure we meet the high standards we’ve set for ourselves and to meet the expectations of our fans. Feel free to join our Discord – we post lots of devlogs to share the progress and are open for a chat.

REPLACED was featured at the Summer Game Fest earlier this summer, and now it will also be finally available at Gamescom for everybody to play. Come and say “hi” For those not attending we’ve prepared something special for later this week.

Now, back to work. We want you to love REPLACED when it launches, so we have to do the extra mile here!

Replaced delayed to 2025

There’s nothing more to say—Sad Cat Studios is making the right call. If the game isn’t ready, then a delay is the best option. I had a chance to play REPLACED at Summer Game Fest 2024, which only makes the wait harder. This is the third time the game has been delayed; originally, it was slated for a 2022 release. But I’d much rather see the game polished to perfection, ensuring strong sales and avoiding the dreaded layoffs that have plagued the gaming industry.

It’s nice that people attending Gamescom will be able to check out REPLACED, and think those that do we’ll enjoy it. Everyone I spoke to during Summer Games Fest has nothing but positives to say about the game. And what about that surprise… I wonder what it is.

Take your time, Sad Cat Studios. We’ll be here waiting!

REPLACED is now set to launch in 2025 for Xbox Series X|S and PC (Steam, Epic Games Store).
