Nintendo Plans to Prevent Scalping for the Switch 2 by Ensuring Sufficient Supply

Nintendo Plans to Prevent Scalping for the Switch 2 by Ensuring Sufficient Supply, Nintendo of America

Nintendo aims to tackle the issue of scalping by ensuring an adequate supply of the upcoming Switch 2 consoles. Scalping, exacerbated by the global semiconductor shortage, has been a significant problem, with resellers inflating prices on secondary markets. Nintendo’s president, Shuntaro Furukawa, emphasized the importance of producing enough consoles to meet customer demand as the primary countermeasure.

During a recent investor Q&A (thanks IGN), Furukawa stated, “The most important thing is to produce a sufficient number to meet customer demand, and this idea has not changed since last year.” He also mentioned exploring additional measures within legal boundaries based on regional circumstances. The semiconductor shortage has been resolved, and Furukawa does not foresee it affecting the new system’s production.

Nintendo plans to reveal the new system before the end of its current fiscal year, concluding in March 2025. The company has been focusing on remasters and smaller games handled by outside studios, which helps maintain a steady release schedule on Switch while potentially freeing up first-party developers for the new system’s games.

Nintendo fans can look forward to a steady supply of Switch 2 consoles and a strategic approach to avoiding past mistakes in transitioning to new hardware.
