New Evidence Suggests Final Fantasy IX Remake is Closer Than We Think

By Josh PiedraJune 15, 2024

Thanks to some codenames in the Epic Games Store database, many people are of the belief that Final Fantasy IX Remake is not only real but closer than we think. Midori previously mentioned that development was very far along and this new data backs up that claim.

The data pertains to pre-order bonuses and although it doesn’t state for what game, their names kind of give away.

  • Early-Purchase Bonus: Tetra Master Starter Pack (the name of the card game in the original Final Fantasy IX)
  • Pre-Order Bonus: Thief’s Knives (most likely for Zidane Tribal)
  • Cuisine Set (most likely for Quina Quen)

Final Fantasy IX Remake was originally spotted in the infamous nVidia leak of 2021. Since then, almost every game on that list has been announced. According to Midori, Final Fantasy IX Remake should have been announced by now; however, Square Enix was unhappy with the studio they outsourced the project to and brought the project back in-house which caused a delay; however, with the above leaked data and Midori’s other statement about it being far along, fans may not have to wait much longer for official confirmation.

To make matters even more tasty, Naoki Yoshida referred Final Fantasy IX Remake in his latest Producer’s Letter. While he did not confirm the game’s existence, he simply stated that he wasn’t making it and if it were his project, he would not do action combat but rather keep it turn-based.
