WEBTOON and Thales Partner to Bring Webcomics to In-Flight Entertainment

By Josh PiedraMay 20, 2024

WEBTOON Entertainment, a leading global entertainment company and home to some of the world’s largest storytelling platforms, is entering a partnership with Thales InFlyt Experience to seamlessly integrate WEBTOON’s full catalog of webcomics for passengers to enjoy during their flights. Thales, with its strong track record of bringing cutting-edge innovations to the aviation industry, is excited to partner with WEBTOON to introduce a new source of entertainment to travelers in the United States.

Passengers will be able to discover and enjoy thousands of WEBTOON digital comics on their personal mobile devices. By introducing WEBTOON’s award-winning and globally popular titles onto Thales’ systems, the two companies are bringing webcomics,  one of the most exciting new content and storytelling formats, from the ground to the air to enhance the InFlight Entertainment experience. WEBTOON’s transformational, innovative mobile vertical scroll format delivered with Thales’ leading Inflight solutions will offer a fantastic viewing experience of digital comics.

“Digital comics are the perfect content for travelers to consume in-flight – highly mobile and scrollable, with a genre and series for every type of reader. Through this new partnership with Thales, we couldn’t be more excited to bring WEBTOON’s library of content to travelers across the U.S., and to introduce even more readers to WEBTOON’s thriving community of international creators,” said David S. Lee, Head of US WEBTOON.

“We are continuously looking to grow our network of partnerships and services to enhance the travel experience. WEBTOON offers best-in-class content in the digital comics space, and this partnership is an exciting new addition to our entertainment offerings that diversifies the passenger experience,” said Kurt Weidemeyer, VP of Product Delivery Digitial, Thales InFlyt Experience. “We look forward to giving travelers the opportunity to dive headfirst into the exciting world of webcomics through this partnership.”

With its innovative, mobile vertical scroll format, WEBTOON has transformed the global comic industry, making it possible for anyone to become a creator and share their stories with audiences around the world. Founded in 2005 in Korea, WEBTOON has since fueled a revolution in storytelling, building a massive, highly engaged fan community of readers and becoming the source of some of the most exciting projects in international entertainment.
