Redfall is Receiving Several Updates and a New Offline Mode Despite Arkane Austin’s Closure

While Redfall wasn’t the success story that Bethesda and Arkane hoped for, and with the announcement of the Arkane Austin being dissolved by Microsoft, there’s still some good news to come out of this. Redfall, no matter how you look at it, still managed to find an audience, and while things look dim, Arkane Austin has mentioned that before the lights go off, one final update to Redfall will be released.

Per a post on the official Redfall Twitter account, the game will receive several updates and an offline status before it’s all said and done.

We are working to release our final update, Game Update 4, that brings revamped Neighborhood and Nest systems, Single Player Pausing, Offline Mode, and more.

I can appreciate all of the updates, but it’s the offline mode that really shows Arkane Austin cares. Like any game that requires online servers to play, those servers will go offline, rendering that game unplayable. With this offline mode, that won’t be the case. Maybe there will be some sort of ad-hoc, or just some local coop so that multiplayer game is still intact.

Arkane Austin hasn’t provided an update on when we’ll see those but did state that it will provide more details soon.

Sadly, when people mention Redfall, they point out all the bad things about the game, which is fair. However, the game also has several things going for it, which were often overlooked. The gunplay was fun, as were the weapons and the abilities of the protagonists. The open world had lots of potential, it just needed more vampires to fill it up. I always felt that if the game had received more updates and, more importantly, some love, it could have aspired to be more. But that wasn’t to be, but damn I wished it was.

With these new updates, it will be sad to see that Redfall may finally live up to its potential, at the cost of the closure of its developer.

Check out our review of Redfall here.

Redfall is available on the Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
