My Hero Academia Season 7’s Opening is a Thing of Beauty

By Josh PiedraMay 4, 2024
My Hero Academia Season 7

This is a first for me. I don’t typically do First Reactions for anything beyond a first season and, yet, here we are on the seventh season of My Hero Academia (Boku no Hero Academia for the purist otaku out there) and I actually have something to say.

However, things are going to be a little different here. First off, this is going to be super short because I’m not reviewing the first episode of the new season. In fact, I haven’t even seen the first episode yet. So, that begs the question what am I even doing here?

I woke up this morning and decided to check out my YouTube feed and since today is the day when My Hero Academia begins airing, the opening was plastered all over my feed. So, rather than going and watching the episode, I thought about checking it out. When I saw that my favorite Japanese male artist, TK from Ling Tosite Sigure, was performing the opening (LiSA is my favorite Japanese female artist, in case you were wondering), I wasn’t going to wait to watch the episode and pushed Play.

Three notes.

That’s all it took.

I knew at that moment, this opening was going to be a banger. I mentioned it in my Discord, I hit up my friends on Messenger and told them all to check out the opening without even hearing the full thing. I went back, scrubbed back to 0:00, and watched all 1:30 of it and at that moment, I knew I was right to tell them to check it out.

It has been a LONG time since any anime opening made me feel this way… to give me that sense of hype, to fall in love with a song almost instantly. I have loved other anime openings over the past few years and have recommended plenty for my friends to check out but I have rarely, if ever, stopped just a second into the opening and ran to tell the masses because I just knew it was going to be that good.

And luckily for us, TOHO posted the creditless version of it on their YouTube so join me in checking it out:

Obviously, a disclaimer: mileage may vary based on individual taste but I love it and, of course, if I love something, I’m going to gush about it.  That’s what I’m doing.

Rating: UVERworld just lost their top spot for best MHA opening / 5.
