PAX East 2024: StarVaders is a Roguelike Deckbuilder Meets Space Invaders

By Keith MitchellApril 2, 2024

We’ve seen a number of fun and interesting games at PAX East 2024, and StarVaders is definitely one of them. During the game event, we spoke with one of the game developers, Hansen Liu, who broke it all down and explained that Starvaders is a spin on the age-old classic Space Invaders with some roguelike elements.

The concept of StarVaders is to stop the invading aliens from reaching the bottom of your playing area, where the entire game is played on a grid. Players will take control of a cutey mecha, who will utilize various abilities and power-ups as cards to take down these invaders, but there’s a catch. Feed the mecha too many abilities, and it overheats and explodes. So, playing specific cards and paying attention to the gird and enemy placement is super important.

Here’s what Hansen Liu had to say about StarVaders during PAX East 2024.

There’s no release date for StarVaders, but there is a demo you should check out if you’re interested in checking out StarVaders: https://store.steampowered.com/app/2097570/StarVaders/
