VOCALOID6 Voicebank ZOLA Project Commemorates 10th Anniversary

By Josh PiedraJune 20, 2023

Yamaha Corporation announces the release of the “ZOLA Project” voicebank for VOCALOID(TM)6. Starting from June 20, the new voicebank is available for purchases (download only) from the official VOCALOID SHOP (https://www.vocaloid.com/en/).

Developed by Yamaha in 2003, VOCALOID singing voice synthesis technology and software creates vocals for songs using lyrics and melodies as input. Synthesizing different vocals is as simple as switching between voicebanks, which are generated from actual human voices. Released in October 2022, VOCALOID6 features the VOCALOID:AI synthesis engine, which uses artificial intelligence to synthesize more natural, richly expressive singing voices. VOCALOID songs created using VOCALOID technology have sparked a new generation of music, boasting countless fans and listeners around the world.

This new remake of the “ZOLA Project” voicebank for VOCALOID6 was produced by Yamaha’s SoundUD team to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the release of the original voicebank for VOCALOID3, which debuted on June 20, 2013. Like the original, the new version includes voicebank data for a group of three male characters: KYO, YUU, and WIL. However, for this release, vocal data from the artist behind the KYO character voice has been newly recorded, while VOCALOID3 voicebank data and sound has been used to revamp the voices of YUU and WIL for use with VOCALOID6. More natural and richly expressive than ever before, the voices can be mixed and matched freely to sing solos, duos, or as a group, and can even be used in combination with other voicebanks. The possible musical variations are endless, limited only by the imagination of the creator. The voices can sing lyrics naturally in not only Japanese, but English and Chinese as well. The official “ZOLA Project” demo song “BORDERLESS” was created by renowned Japanese composer Daisuke Asakura and songwriter Yukinojo Mori.

Voicebank with three male voices that can be mixed and matched freely to sing solos, duos, or in chorus

The “ZOLA Project” voicebank consists of the voices of characters KYO, YUU, and WIL, who make up a three-person male vocal group. Take advantage of the individuality of these three unique voices to enjoy creating VOCALOID songs using a single voicebank. Mix and match the voices freely to sing solos, duos, as a three-person group, or in chorus with other voices when used in combination with other voicebanks. The possible musical variations are endless, limited only by the imagination of the creator.

ZOLA

KYO is bright and positive. He specializes in pop, rock, and electronic

YUU is soft and ephemeral. He specializes in pop, dance, and jazz

WIL is moderate and husky. He specializes in pop, R&B, and ballads

Newly recorded data for KYO and revamped data for YUU and WIL for richer, more expressive singing voices

For this release, vocal data from the artist behind the character KYO has been newly recorded, while VOCALOID3 voicebank data and sound has been used to revamp the voices of YUU and WIL for use with VOCALOID6. The voicebank uses the VOCALOID:AI synthesis engine of VOCALOID6 to synthesize singing voices that are more natural and richly expressive than ever before.

Sing lyrics in English and Chinese naturally with support for multilingual singing

The “ZOLA Project” voicebank offers multilingual functionality for singing lyrics in not only Japanese, but English and Chinese as well, using natural, native-like pronunciation. When a user inputs English or Chinese lyrics, the language is automatically detected and the lyrics are sung using natural pronunciation, giving creators more freedom when writing lyrics, without having to worry about language barriers. The voicebank also supports VOCALO CHANGER, which uses the creator’s vocal data to replicate their own singing style as is.

The Voicebank ZOLA Project retails for $99 USD and is available now!
