Retro Studios Almost Made A Star Fox Title

By Todd BlackFebruary 5, 2023
Starlink: Battle For Atlas Star Fox, Retro Studios, Nintendo

Retro Studios is known mostly for their entries in the Metroid and Donkey Kong franchises. But they have pitched to do other things in the past. In a new installment of “Did You Know Gaming?”, the team revealed that Retro almost did a game for the Wii involving the squad from Star Fox! Sadly, it was passed on really quickly by the heads of the studio, but one of them was able to reveal some details about the title.

The game would be called “Star Fox Armada,” and would have some cool features in it. For example, it would have a “puppet-style” and would pick up after the beloved N64 title. With Andross gone, the team are sent to new systems to get resources for a rebuild of the Lylat system, and naturally, they find new dangers there. A big part of the game would’ve been you sending funds and resources back to General Pepper in exchange for new weapons and gear, or you could keep it for yourself. There were also side missions that would embrace the mercenary style of the team.

Sadly, we didn’t get the game, and the Wii U title featuring Fox and crew was…bad. But hey, at least Retro Studios is working on Metroid Prime 4! …a game we haven’t heard about in years.
