Dark Souls Remastered PC Servers Now Back Online

By Keith MitchellNovember 9, 2022
Dark Souls Remastered Nintendo Switch

As mentioned several weeks ago, Bandai Namco and Fromsoftware were working on Dark Souls Remastered, and were hopeful the game would be playable online soon. Now, as of November 9th, 2022, the game has regained its online features so players can return to their jolly cooperation and merciless PVP antics.

For those wondering if Dark Souls: Prepare to Die will also see its online features enabled, according to Bandai Namco, it will not. Due to the older game engine, it simply wasn’t feasible to protect it from the RCE exploit that caused all the mess in the first place.

Online features for the PC version of #DarkSouls: Remastered have been reactivated.

On January 23rd, 2022, Bando Namco took the entirety of the Dark Souls PC servers offline due to the RCE exploit that was discovered. This exploit could capture your login information for your computer, execute programs in the background, or possibly even hose your OS. Since then, Bandai Namco and Fromsoftware had promised they would correct this exploit and would get the servers back online. Which felt like an eternity for Dark Souls PC players, myself included.

With Dark Souls Remastered PC back online, this only leaves the Dark Souls II PC servers as the final game that needs to be patched up and have its online play restored.

What’s interesting is how the community will respond, with Elden Ring being available. Despite the PVP not being enjoyable as Dark Souls Remastered, Dark Souls II, or Dark Souls III, some have adapted and have made their peace with Elden Ring’s PVP. As for me, the moment Dark Souls III and Dark Souls II: SotFS came back, I welcomed my old friends with open arms.
