WBD Creates DC Studios, Hires James Gunn and Peter Safran To Run It

DC Studios have hired James Gunn

Thanks to the ineptness of Warner Bros, the DCEU went from a “sure thing” to a “what are we doing now?” kind of deal. They kept changing the looks of their films despite having competent directors and writers on them, and then they couldn’t decide what they wanted to be later on. Then, when the Warner Bros Discovery merger came to pass, many things got canceled, and the DCEU looked even MORE in distress. However, with the success of Black Adam (read our review!), the return of Henry Cavill, and now, the announcement of DC Studios, things might finally be turning a corner.

The announcement came today and revealed that the new studio will be headed up by James Gun and Peter Safran. These two will answer to the head of WBD and will overall the entirety of DC Comics properties. That includes the film, TV and animation divisions. Most people will like this because James Gunn has proven himself time and time again. He’s a man who loves comics, loves making media about them and has already made two things for the DCEU via The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker. And as this tweet notes, he’s glad to have the job:

Both men have signed a four-year deal to be the heads of DC Studios, more than enough time to get things back to where they need to be.

“DC has among the most entertaining, powerful, and iconic characters in the world and I am thrilled to have the singular and complementary talents of James and Peter joining our world-class team and overseeing the creative direction of the storied DC Universe,” said WBD head David Zaslav in a statement. “Their decades of experience in filmmaking, close ties to the creative community, and proven track record thrilling superhero fans around the globe make them uniquely qualified to develop a long-term strategy across film, TV, and animation, and take this iconic franchise to the next level of creative storytelling.”

Time will tell what the two will be able to do.
