Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom Liberty Expansion Revealed

If you’re a fan of Cyberpunk 2077, then today has been a great day for you. Not only did CD Projekt RED reveal its plans for its first DLC expansion for Cyberpunk 2077, Phantom Liberty. The developer also released patch 1.06 for the game. Let’s discuss both!

This expansion has a release date of 2023, so it’s way off, however, the big news is that the developer has decided to make this expansion exclusive to the next-gen (can we just call them current-gen) consoles and have nixed the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions. This means you won’t be able to purchase the expansion once it’s released. I’m sure we’ll be hearing about that move any moment now.

In this new expansion, players will once again step into the role of ‘V’, this time taking an oath to serve the New United States of America. All while the familiar voice of Johnny Silverhand, once again voiced by Keanu Reeves, makes his feelings known that this wasn’t the right move to make.

Was it a bad move? I suppose we’ll find out once Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty is released sometime in 2023.

As for the elephant in the room – the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, yeah that’s going to hurt. For sure, this will likely frustrate fans who haven’t been able to upgrade to the latest and greatest gaming consoles or don’t have a gaming PC. However, with all the troubles CPR had with those games and Cyberpunk 2077, I think this is the right decision.

Alongside the new expansion news, comes word that Cyberpunk 2077 1.6 Update has also been released for all platforms. This update contains even more bug fixes but also adds some stylized content straight from the soon-to-be-released Netflix Cyberpunk: Edgerunners anime series. It looks pretty damned good, so if you play the game, be sure to check that out as well.

For all you Xbox Series S owners, you’ll be happy to know that a new performance mode was also added during the patch. This new mode adds a 900p resolution, complete with Dynamic Resolution Scaling. This should definitely help with the prior frame rate drops when playing on the console.

It’s a great time for Cyberpunk 2077 players, and I’m happy to see that CPR didn’t throw in the towel, and has kept on working away at the time. I’m excited about the Phantom Liberty expansion, and I just may jump back into Night City, now that the game has seen a number of bug fixes.
