MultiVersus Classes Breakdown – Which Class is Right for You

By Keith MitchellAugust 2, 2022
Multiversus, Wonder Woman

WB Games MultiVersus has captivated the gaming scene and has even managed to smash a few fighting game records. It’s a well-built game, it’s lots of fun, and can you believe that this is still just in beta? Personally, I haven’t been able to put it down.

However, this is more than just a fighting game, and it’s simply not a Super Smash Bros. clone, either. In this article, we’ll talk about one of the many ways that the game is different from most platform fighting games, and that’s the class’s role.

Unlike Nintendo’s Smash Bros. series, MultiVersus has added several classes that make the game dynamic different. Currently, there are five classes; Tank, Bruiser, Support, Assassin, and Mage. But what do they do? What should you pick one over the other? Are you confused yet? Well, not to worry, as we’re going to do our best to make things a bit clearer.

That said, be sure to pay attention to one bit of detail that’s listed on each character; Horizontal, Vertical, and Hybrid. This means that the character excels in their ability to control that slice of the stage. Having a horizontal rating means they do well in controlling that space and have a good chance to smack you off the left or right of the stage.

While vertical characters do well in knocking up opponents and can ring out by knocking them out of the out stage upwards and downwards. I feel this is more dangerous as you have less vertical space than you do horizontal space. While hybrid characters do alright on both horizontal and vertical, just not as well as those, who specialize in either.

Alright, on to the MultiVersus Classes

Tank

Multiversus Classes Guide - Tanks - Superman

This class is easy to explain, as most know what a tank class is. Tanks sacrifice speed, and they are susceptible to getting smacked around more than other classes, as they can’t escape and dodge as well as other classes.

However, they can make up for what they give up in speed with hard-hitting moves and take more damage than the other classes. Specifically, the Iron Giant. While he may seem like a, well, a giant target, he hits hard. It’s also hard to ring him out if the player knows what they’re doing.

Think of the Tanks as the next step up from the Bruiser class.

  • Iron Giant
  • Superman (recommended)
  • Wonder Woman

Bruiser

Multiversus Classes Guide - Brusier- Garnet

Similar to the Tank Class, the Bruiser can output decent damage, but they don’t have the same ability to absorb damage. This class also possesses better speed and dodges, and a few of them have some really outstanding mechanics. They also are one of the more straightforward classes to use.

This is a class I’d recommend starting with if you’re new to MultiVersus.

  • Batman
  • Garnet (recommended)
  • Jake the Dog
  • LeBron James
  • Shaggy
  • Taz (recommended)

Support

Multiversus Classes Guide - Support - Velma

The Support class can buff themselves and their teammates as the name subjects. This makes them valuable when you’re playing in 2 vs. 2, but they can also dish out respectable damage in 1 vs. 1, or Free for All.

In Reindog’s case, he can even stop his teammates from falling to their deaths. However, the trade-off is that the support classes’ damage output is usually lower than that of all the other classes. Still, their buffs more than make up the difference.

Velma, is a beast. Her buffs and damage output easily puts her as one of the best characters in the game.

  • Reindog
  • Steven Universe
  • Velma (Highly recommended)

Assassin

Multiversus Classes Guide - Assassin - Harley Quinn

The Assassin’s class is easily the fastest class when it comes to mobility. They also have some of the highest damage out in the game and have access to a number of abilities. The downside to the class is that they take way more damage than other classes, 14% more, just to their high damage output. Still, perks such as Kryptonian Skin can help negate some of that, so don’t be afraid to try out the Assassin class.

  • Arya Stark
  • Finn  (recommended)
  • Harley Quinn

Mage

Multiversus Classes Guide - Mage - Bugs Bunny

The Mage class is more technical than the Bruiser and Assassin classes as this class uses various tricks and spells to do damage and has the potential to do a vast amount of damage fairly quickly. That said, they’re definitely more challenging to use due to their complexities, but the payoff is worth it, thanks to their damage output, which is some of the highest in the game.

Depsite this, if you’re new to the game, I do not recommend picking this class. Spend some time in the lab before doing some 1 vs.1, and definitely before 2 vs. 2 fights.

Mage fighters include:

  • Bugs Bunny (recommended)
  • Tom and Jerry

Lastly, before you decide to pick a character, be sure to head to the MultiVersus Lab. There, you can pick any character and get some practice with them. It doesn’t matter if you own them or not, as everyone is accessible in the lab.
