The Intel ARC A380 Handles Monster Hunter Rise Sunbreak Without Breaking a Sweat

By Keith MitchellJuly 12, 2022
Intel Arc GPU

It’s no secret that Intel has big plans to add another name that isn’t AMD and Nvidia when providing consumer GPUs, with its Intel ARC GPUs.

Having another player in the GPU scene has been a long time coming, and it looks like Intel isn’t fooling around. The Gunnir Intel Arc A380 Photon 6G OCis already available in China. Ryan Shrout, formerly of PC Perspective, is now working for Intel in its graphics marketing team managed to get ahold of one, and has been posting its performance in various games.

Recently, Ryan posted a short video of the GPU running Monster Hunter Rise Sunbreak, which was quite impressive. Running at 1080p with medium settings and DirectX 12, the GPU managed to hold its own averaging over 100 frames per second. That’s not bad for a newcomer in the GPU scene, and it excites me about what else Intel has in store.

As for when we can expect Intel’s ARC GPUs in North America, we still don’t have a release date. When I asked Ryan Shrout when we’d see those cards reach our shores, he posted a Space Balls gif that teased “Soon!” Take that as you want, but hopefully, that means sometime during Summer 2022.

From what I understand of the A380, the GPU is 25% faster than AMD’s RX 6400 and should be priced around $150 – $200. The A380 also has 6GB of GDDR6, 186GB/s of memory bandwidth, three Displayport, and one HDMI 2.1 output.

Having another medium-level GPU that hopefully doesn’t break the bank, while offering decent performance is exactly what we need. Especially since both AMD’s and Nvidia’s GPUs have gotten costly.
