MultiVersus Superman Guide: Moves and Strategies

By Chris PenwellJuly 31, 2022
MultiVersus Superman Guide-01

One of the most powerful beings in the universe and possibly all of fiction is Superman, a being that flies at blistering speeds, has super strength, and can breathe ice out of his mouth. He’s the total package when it comes to a hero, and that is showcased in MultiVersus. Here’s how to play as him in this crossover platform fighter.

MultiVersus Superman Moveset and Best Strategies

Standard moves

MultiVersus Superman Guide-03

Superman’s first move is a mega punch. A standard tap of the square button (or X on Xbox) will cause 3% of damage and actually will knock back foes a little way. A charged hold of the button when let go unleash a mega punch that deals 10% of damage and will cause a lot of knockback on to your opponent, as you can see in the picture above as LeBron hits the Batmobile hard at just 35%. While performing this button in the air, Superman will give a quick flurry of three punches, making this perfect for off-stage shenanigans to knock your opponent out.

Going right or left while pressing square will be a quick combo that can total up to 19% of damage. It will cause some knockback, but it’s not effective at taking opponents out. You’ll need a charged attack to do that, but this combo’s main function is to either start the horizontal movement of a foe off stage or to dish out a near 20% of damage in just a few seconds. Doing right or left and pressing square (X) in the air will give Superman a quick knuckle that can be tapped or held down. It may be a good way to finish off enemies from the side of the stage.

Going down and pressing square (X) has Superman slamming down his right fist. Tapping the motion causes a decent 7% of damage and can be followed up with a quick uppercut with up and square (X) for a cool 14-17% combo. If you slam the button combination down with a held motion, it has a 10% output, but it’s harder to follow up moves as the knockback is too great; it also doesn’t lift foes up the ground too much.

Up and square (X) is a quick uppercut that can be performed for 4% damage output. However, while held, this attack is dangerous. It’s one of the best knockout moves in the game. Even if the enemy has a low percentage, they’ll go high, and then you can follow it up with a mid-air grab (up and triangle (Y)) to finish off the opponent with ease.

Special moves

MultiVersus Superman Guide-02

To start off with Superman’s special move list, his freezing breath (pressed with the triangle (Y) button) has the ability to place an opponent in an ice block for a few seconds. However, this is one of the worst attacks in his arsenal. It does very little damage, and his foe isn’t stunned by it. It also takes a long time to freeze an opponent as it takes 15 consecutive points to make it happen. It will be rare to pull this off unless your ally is able to stun your victim for a long enough time. It’s best to completely ignore Superman’s ice abilities in MultiVersus.

However, one of his best special attacks is his leaping attack with up and triangle (Y). It does around 10-11% of damage as Superman strikes his opponent upwards and slams them down to the ground. It has great knockback and has great armor attached to it. Up and triangle (Y) is also lethal in the air as he floats upwards and then grabs his opponent. You can then choose where to throw them with an inputted direction. We recommend sending them upwards, however, especially if you can catch them mid-air. For example, Shaggy might be charging up in this area, and while he least expects it, you can grab him and launch the Scooby Doo character upwards.

Sideways and triangle (Y) will have Superman use his locomotive charge. During this charged move, you can aim with a reticle and then let go for a precise hit. This can knock out an opponent easily, and it’s hard to counter as it’s an armored punch. Similar to the last move, Superman can fly horizontally and grab a foe from mid-air. He will then throw them forwards, creating a perfect opportunity to knock out anyone on the roster.

Superman’s last special move is his heat vision. It causes 5-6% of damage, but if hit, it will knock the foe upwards, creating an opportunity for an air combo, and it will ignite the opponent, adding on more hit points (up to 11-12%). It also has armor, just like the last two special moves.

Effective Perks for Superman

MultiVersus Superman Guide - Perks

  • Flaming Re-Entry is a perk that improves his leaping attack (Up and triangle from the ground). It will ignite enemies, add more damage to his foes, and leave a firewall on the ground from the impact of his attack.
  • Snowball Effect increases your damage by 7% when hitting against the foe with the highest damage. If someone else in your party has this powerful perk, it will increase by 15%.
  • Leg Day Champ will help improve your chances of nailing a grab in the air, increasing Superman’s jump height by 10%. This will make it more likely to land the move.
  • Superman is pretty slow in MultiVersus, so to make him more competitive, you can increase his movement speed by 4% with the Speed Force Assist perk.
