MultiVersus: How to Play as Batman – Moves, Strategies, and Perks

By Chris PenwellJuly 24, 2022
MultiVersus Batman Guide-01 750x422

The Dark Knight is one of the best characters in MultiVersus, as Batman is within the top-tier list in many circles. His grappling hook lets him zip from place to place quickly, while his powerful uppercut can easily send foes into knockout territory.

MultiVersus Batman Move List

Standard attacks

MultiVersus Batman Guide-02

The first attack we’ll list in this guide is the famous Batarang. The projectile launches forward by holding the square button (or X on Xbox). You can then pick it up quickly as the weapon falls to the ground. It only deals around 4% of damage. This move is a good attack to sling out during the beginning of battles, and after the foe bounces from the move, you can follow it up with a standard punching combo. You can also use the Batarang in the air, and it can cause a weakened status to a foe.

Forward or backward and square (X) is a standard punching combo. Press the same button three times, and this combo will bring the enemy to the air with an ending uppercut. This combo can take them out whenever they’re at high percentages. You should also follow up this attack with an additional uppercut into the air by pressing up and square (X), which acts as a double hit combo in and of itself.

Going forward or backward and using square (X) in the air will create a devastating drop kick that can throw enemies into the abyss.

Up and square is an uppercut that can be performed on the ground. Holding it will give you more power behind the punch. This is one of the best ways to knockout your opponent out of the ring.

The last standard attack on the ground is a slide that can be performed by going down and pressing square (or X on Xbox). This can slip up opponents who expect an attack from higher up and can diminish others’ foolhardy attacks that some players keep repeating. You can simply tap it for a shorter slide or hold the attack for a firmer and longer attack. It only does around 4% by itself, but Batman is so fast that he could make an easy combo for you with a standard punching attack alongside it.

Batman is deadly while using the down and square (X) combination in the air. Get someone off the cliff and then use this attack to spike an opponent quickly. This is one of the best of the detective’s moves.

Special attacks

MultiVersus Batman Guide-02

You thought Batman was dangerous before, but now his special attacks utilize many functions of the famous utility belt.

Batman’s neutral special attack with the triangle button (or Y on Xbox) is the Bat-Bomb. When you press it, his hand will illuminate in yellow. Hit an opponent in time with any attack, and the Bat-Bomb will attach to it. Once a quick three-second countdown runs out, your opponent will take off a short distance in the air. This is when you should dish out an air combo and send them into the stratosphere.

One attack that will help you eliminate a foe after a Bat-Bomb attack is a powerful Shoryuken-like uppercut. You can tap or hold the triangle button (Y) while moving up on the thumbstick to give a quick or strengthened attack into the air. This is the best option for Batman to get his enemy out of the ring.

While moving sideways, press triangle (Y) to unleash the grappling hook. You can use it as a movement tool to get from place to place or utilize it against an enemy for an unexpected attack. In addition, you can use the grappling hook on your teammate to zip to them if they need help. Perhaps, you can team on one foe to get the best combo out of a dire situation for them. You can also use this move in the sky.

Holding down and pressing triangle (Y) will make Batman relinquish his Smoke Bomb. He will be able to hide within the smoke, so perhaps you can get a sneaky hit on a foe within this distraction. Your opponent can also be slowed within this mess. While in the air, this button combination will deliver an impressive dive kick that can also be used to spike opponents. Use this if someone is stalking you in the sky.

Most Effective Perks for Batman

MultiVersus Batman Guide-04

The Defender of Gotham can be a mighty character, especially if you give him the right perks. Here is what we recommend while playing as him, so you can maximize your success in air-bound combat.

  • Bouncerang, which makes the Batarang cause more of a Weakened status effect once hit on your opponents.
  • Aerial Combat, which improves Batman’s Air Acceleration by 10%. This will make him more agile and able to successfully follow up strikes in the air when his foes least expect it.
  • Gravity Manipulation, which gives Batman a better fall speed by 10%. Once again, this makes Batman even faster and gives him a better chance to avoid incoming attacks.
  • Up, Up, and A-Slay makes Batman’s air attacks that throw opponents upward gain 5% damage; much of Batman’s moveset, like the Bat-Bomb, will use this perk to their advantage.
  • Slippery Customer could be an additional backup perk for Batman. If your foes like to spam attacks, gaining a 10% longer invulnerability window for dodging could be huge for the hero.
