The Witcher 3 Has Sold Over 40 Million Copies Since Its Launch

CD Projekt Red has revealed that The Witcher 3 title has sold over 40 million copies.

Despite the controversy surrounding CD Projekt Red’s Cyberpunk 2077, there’s been a lot of positive news regarding the company. One such piece of information is that The Witcher 3, which is perhaps the company’s most prolific title, has sold over 40 million copies. That’s a significant feat, regardless of how you look at it.

CD Projekt Red revealed the news via a tweet that includes the Witcher series, including The Witcher 3, which has sold over 65 million copies. Again, that’s mind-blowing. But there’s more. Around this time last year, the company posted that The Witcher series has sold 50 million copies, with The Witcher 3 sitting at over 30 million copies. From this time last year to today, the series sold an additional 15 million copies.

I’m sure many of those copies have been due to gamers waiting for the next-gen versions of The Witcher 3 for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. I know I’m definitely one of them, despite already owning the game on the PC. As for when we can expect this, we don’t know. On the one hand, it was reported that the game would be delayed indefinitely. Then today, CD Projekt Red revealed that while the title has been delayed, it is on track to be released in Q2 2022.

We have decided to have our in-house development team conduct the remaining work on the next-gen version of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. We are currently evaluating the scope of work to be done and thus have to postpone Q2 release until further notice. 1/2

With that in mind, CD Projekt Red also revealed in March 2022 that they have already started the development of the next The Witcher title. While it currently doesn’t have a name, we know that it will be powered by Epic Games Unreal Engine 5. Just don’t expect it to be released anytime soon.
